Did you know that every three minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer?
That means 25,000 kids around the world will hear the words “you have cancer"
this month alone.
Together, we have the power to change this.
Here are six easy ways you can make a difference for kids with cancer during September, National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month:
1. Tie-Up for Kids
Swap out your regular shoelaces for a pair of gold ones! Wearing gold laces in September is a small, yet impactful act that sparks conversation and spreads awareness. Every time you tie your laces, you’ll send a message of hope, love, and encouragement to children battling cancer. Gold is the official color for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month because every child’s life is as precious as gold.
A donation of any amount will receive a pair of gold shoelaces. You can get your gold laces through our Going Gold Shoelace Campaign.100% of the funds raised will provide financial support for local families battling childhood cancer.
We are partnering with over 30 schools across Long Island to have their sports teams wear gold laces thoughtout September. Interested in getting your team or school involved? Email info@danielacontefoundation.org for more information. Interested in getting your business, club, or other organization involved? Gold laces are limited to sports teams, so please reach out for more information!
2. Make A Donation
Give! Your generous gift will support local pediatric cancer families. As always, $0.95 cents of every dollar donated to DCF goes directly to the families we serve, during the time they need it most.
Childhood cancer treatment begins at $833,000, considerably higher than that for adults. That doesn’t account for the added costs of fuel for travel to treatments, meals on the go, and additional childcare. The list is exhausting and comes at a time when 94 percent of parents cut back on working hours to care for their children. Families battling this disease need your support so that they can focus on what matters most – their child’s health.
What’s even better than giving? Doubling your donation! Many companies have programs that will match the amount you give to the Daniela Conte Foundation. Click here to see if your company will double down for kids.
3. Start A Fundraiser
There’s no better reason to do what you want to do than for a worthy cause, right? Starting a fundraiser to support the Daniela Conte Foundation allows just that! You can do a kooky challenge and post to social media, do an activity like running or cycling, or sell baked goods – the options are limitless. Simply do what you want in the spirit of fighting for children with cancer and ask your friends and family to donate. Every dollar raised makes a difference for kids right here in our community. Your donations to the Daniela Conte Foundation are tax deductible and directly support families battling pediatric cancer.
4. Speak Up for Kids
Kids need adults to speak up for them, and YOUR voice is just the one we’re looking for. The number one cause of death by disease in children is cancer, and it’s a diagnosis on the rise. Yet receiving only 4% of the federal cancer research budget means that survival statistics haven’t changed much in the last two decades, and treatment options are outdated, toxic, and ineffective. Whether you’re speaking with a neighbor about the shocking prevalence of this disease or sharing a social media post about the work we’re doing at DCF, talking about childhood cancer drives the awareness that will bring change. Let everyone know that our kids are worth more than 4% and that every child’s life is precious!
5. Social Media: Connect and Spread awareness!
Follow the Daniela Conte Foundation on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and whenever you see a story that touches your heart, share it with your friends. We often post stories of the courageous children right here in the community who benefit from your support. We also keep you up to date on ways you can help, like our annual Casino Night, Butterfly 5k, blood drives, and more. By following and sharing, you spread love and hope on behalf of children with cancer.
